TAILGATE PARTY Giants Stadium NJ Honky Tonk Hackensack STORY Tail Gate at the Meadowlands 2006 – This has been called the greatest tailgate party “by far” prior to a Stones Show. I agree and everyone that was there and been to other tailgate parties as a comparison agrees. Pretty much indisputable. . . . . ALL the credit goes to Ritchie "Cold Italian Pizza" Yankee & Sharkey Upstate NY Stones fan, who organized, did ALL the heavy lifting, set up a concert row aisle of grills and tables of food and all the stuffings too. The food drinks that everyone chipped in & brought was over the top. This was well before the “structured” tailgates of today and recent times where the venues control and say, where you can set up, what you can & cannot do. Guidelines as to how much area, how loud music can be played (if at All) and getting a permit is commonplace. So Let it Loose. Let it Loose. Let it Loo Loo Loose here was the vibe. This also would have to be the largest attended, I will take a guess easily 100+ maybe 200+ that came n went. The Longest in time. I will guess 6+ hours. Plus a spectacular Cake Baked to Commemorate. My contribution to it was to hold a raffle of Stones Memorabilia, of everday items tee shirts whatever Stones Stuff to raise $$ and offset costs of the party. I know these events rarely break even on $$, so why not help out in Fun$Raising for it. Plus I was moving for the first time in 20+ years and found I had a hitload of Stones stuff that I did not know, I even had in back closets and garages that were not going to make it into my new home. First off, I had 4 CASES of odd Stones keychains from the 1970’s that was handed out to anyone that purchased a raffle ticket and just handed out to anyone. 100's of them. I also in addition asked anyone who had an item to bring it and I will raffle it off. The response was Tremendous. But, this was now going to be a timely undertaking with all the crazy mama # of Stones items. The most unique item was a person from HBO brought a complete set of approx. 25 Lithograph quality fully matted on black all super highly suitable for framing of the Tongue designs that The Rolling Stones ( mostly Mick she told me ) TURNED DOWN until they decided on the tongue they used for the HBO Special. Each one of these were easily nicer than any lithograph that www.rollingstones.com was putting out there. Probabaly One-of-a-Kind, as she worked in the HBO graphics dept, and brought them in a pick up truck painted green & blue -ew . . . so these were not "supposed to" be distributed outside of that tiny graphics department. For the start me up Raffle someone brought a PA system and someone else brought a Box truck for the grills where I was allowed to stand above the crowd like a mocked up stage inside the truck body, perfect to hold up the item, describe it & bark out all the winning #’s. This system made my voice come outta bounce outta the back of that truck and carry across whole parking sections next door over at the NY Giants Stadium - Meadowlands Sports Complex East Rutherford, NJ (also home to the NJ Jets). NOW the “best tailgate party ever” was attracting even more people onlookers from neighboring parking lot sections. Fortunately I had my lovely assistant ( Vanna Mary White ) who was going to the show with me and my car service driver ( Gary Pello Player ) who was not going to the show, due to the fact that he just had no other rides scheduled and decided to partake in the fun & food and help out on the raffle. I consequently had to hire him to stay and help handle distributing all the overload of items checking the ticket #’s and handing out the described Stones items won. What made this even tougher to speed up were European Stones fans from the parking lots over or two lots over, heard all this commotion that came over to me at the PA and then wanted me to explain how this all worked . . . and . . . how could they get entered into the raffle after hours of coordinating - and in between picking winning #’s. From what I figured out, is that Europeans (or anyone outside the USA) never saw a commonplace party raffle like this. They were familiar with Irish Sweepstakes and Lotteries, but not on the workings of how a small raffle works. After being polite to the 1st 10 or so and sold them some tickets . . . it was sorry “ya Snooze Ya Looze” “better luck next time” wise-cracks. Ya Gotta Move . . . Ya Gotta Move Chi-i-i-ild on cuz at this rate the raffling of items one by one was going . . . we were gonna finish up in the middle of the Stones Encores. (We had close to 100 Stones Stuff items to Give away) . . . ALL This Going On while Ritchie & Sharkey Dont wanna be yer your Slaved over the Grills. Made sure the Food & Drinks Flowed. I tried to rush & bundle items to get to the end of the raffle which was going to be the HBO No-Go Tongues . . . . we got to about 5 of them and everyone just had to leave for the show and opening act. So the raffle ended up abruptly, kinda "It's All Over Now" instantly . . . We raised almost $1000.00 at a $1 dollar a ticket, bought my driver a basic ticket to see the Stones as pay for his work, who was thrilled! Cut Ritchie a check for $700 to pay for his supplies and efforts. What happened to the remaining 20 HBO Lithographs . . . well they ended up in my home office and everyone that saw them could tell they were truly a unique one of a kind deal (Blew everyone Away when they Walked into that Home Office) . . . then . . . I moved and the movers lost them in storage. Ugh. F'N Ugh. and AGAIN ALL the CREDIT Goes to "Cold Italian Pizza" Ritchy Yankee and SHARKEY. Thanks Again. |
