KICK OFF Waits for No One and it Wont Wait for Me STORY A call went out about a month before the game from DMP Don Mischer Productions an internationally acclaimed ( Emmy Peabody Norman Lear Achievement 10 Directors Guild Awards Winner ) production company that creates innovative TV and live events. The Call out was for 2000 volunteers to "act" as an audience for the Stones Super Bowl extravaganza. The commitment was a serious one as it appears that they actually used less than 1000, expecting 1/2 to not make the cut. All attendees were subjected to a ton of downtime and waiting during over 14 hours of rehearsal time spread out over two days. According to all reports it was well worth it. During the dress rehearsal in Ford Field Friday night before the game, Ya got The Rolling Stones, live, for a sound check and complete run through of 3 songs including lighting, cameras, and pyro. How Super Cool or should I say Super Bowl cool. Stones effortlessly cranked through Start Me Up, Rough Justice, and Satisfaction three times. Twice in front of all of the callouts and once sequestered in the tunnel leading to the field. What an amazing vibe with 2000 people waiting in the wings all rocking and bouncing to a sing-along of Satisfaction. Between takes, Some got to meet a few of the very friendly Stones' crew and Band B members . . . Chuck Leavell was spotted doing autographs. Now, on with the Show . . . Introduced with a brief video, the Rolling Stones immediately launched into a resounding rendition of "Start Me Up". The Stones were strutting atop their designed exclusively for this event huge tongue of the band's infamous iconic logo. The stage itself was very impressive. The Tongue portion was a Stones red curtain that revealed a pool of lucky Stones fans underneath in an envious position to enjoy a 12 minute Halftime romp. The Stones ripped through their set. The Call Out Fans watched the show from the there designated mandatory pre-rehearsed show position. Blondie - Bernard - Lisa where were ya Getting Your Ya Ya's Out from . . . we now know, out from Under the Stage paying your 20 feet from stardom dues, of course. Jagger then quipped with a wise crack, "Here's one we could've done at Super Bowl I . . . Everything comes to one who waits". With that, the classic rock anthem "I Can't Get No Satisfaction". The hilarious facts was that ABC beamed the Stones in performance with a five-second delay in order to censor the . . . or just 2 words in two of the three songs. Dead Man Cum in "Start Me Up" and Am I just one of yer Cocks from "Rough Justice" were both quietly edited out of the live broadcast. No surprises, no special guests. Those Super Bowl Gimmicks came later on, But the Stones Alone Sounding as Vibrant as ever on this unique set up to go LIVE all over the planet. Made for a one of a kind Stones event party. Thank You DMP - ABC and the NFL. STORY CONTRIBUTED by The Legenday Fans that were there, DMP people and as TOLD by BLONDIE CHAPLIN . |
