HBO Hard Rock Party NY City BATTLE of "The Police in New York City" STORY Battle of the Bands was the name for what HBO was going for on the night before the taping of the HBO Stones Concert Special. A Common theme for Multiple Bands playing at one venue. Not very original at all. Except this one turned out to be Battle of the Fans - Battle of the Police and Battle of the Fans against the Police. 1st off NO One got hurt. It was all Fun & Games . . . The Crowd Funning and the Bands Gunning. I really dont remember how I got a ticket, but it was not that hard of a ticket to get. Somewhat of a Private Party. Not sure if we were comped ours or we paid . . . But if we did pay it was small $$ like $10 or $20 . . . even if we did cough up some $$ it was still not a hard ticket to get. The HBO People had some dining tables blocked off for themselves. But if ya really wanted to come in and hang at the bar or have food they were really just letting anyone in. Rollin_Andre the Big Time Stones CD - Record - 45 Afficenando Documentor and Stones Record Author from Amsterdam was here with 3 other buddies that won tickets from a Netherlands Radio Station including Hotel and Tickets to a Stones Show over at MSG. So me and my buddy hung out with them because they were happenstance on the same floor as us at the same hotel - Paramount NY that their Radio Station Stones Trip Winning Package provided them. So we all stroll over a short walk. But, we are running late and to be honest not expecting much of a Blow Out. We get there, show our tickets and its pretty munch a clusterfuck of what is going on, Do the tickets get ya in, really get ya in, for seating or just the bar, well anyway we figure out if yer eating food ya move to the head of the line, so we said we were eating food DUH!! Went to the head of the line to get on the reserve shorter list and promptly proceeded over the bar and ignored all the Food line rules. After a bunch of drinks and running late we already missed most of band # 1 caught them doing the tail end of one Stones covers, (Not Bad), then, a second band comes on more Stones covers, (Not bad also). The bands set up facing the front door in the middle of the joint (NOT really a music hall set up but a restaurant set up kinda place). By now the food crowd has disipated and its moreso a partying and drinkin crowd, getting rampbunctious and very lively. Now its the Mike Hunt Band, who if you have never seen them before or know what to expect, it is a Rolling Stones Cover Band meets an Uncover Burlesque show . . . with All Great Stones Renditions. Andre and his Amsterdam crew are front row by the Mock stage or Band Area . . . I am pretty much relegated to playin waitress with bringing drinks back n forth . .. Not minding the waitressing, because my spot in the front row is saved by Andre his friends and mine. By now its JAM Packed, all the way Back to the Front door . . . we are in Super Excess Over flow . . . Fire Marshall should be showing up at any moment and Tammy the Lead Singer is great as always, blowin the place away. Crowd is going bonkers Stones Cover tunes cranking at High Volume . . . while Tammy decides to do some Burlesque with wardrobe malfunctions, clothing removal . . . and with her being maybe 5' 5'' . . . No one past the first two rows can actually see . . . So it is now a crazed push n shove fest . . . Hootin n Howlin all to get to the front or catch a glipse of what was going on. LOL. It was all good harmless entertainment . . . but the probable rumours of what was ACTUALLY happening in the front row (Wardrobe Malfunctions), had to get embellished into some kinda Tijuana Live Sex acts to Stones Music performance LOL . . . Then as Jagger Sings it "Then the Police Knocked" . . . "It was 'bout 12 O'Clock" . . . "Joint was Rockin . . . Goin Round n Round" . . . "Reelin n a Rockin" . . . "What a Crazy Sound" and scene. Now the Police are also tryin to get to the front row and see what is happening. Us STILL the Barrier in the Front Row. We yell back, do not let those cops in! . . . ALL the while the Music is blastin, The band wailing and Tiny Tammy or Small Tammy is oblivious to the Cops trying to break in and break up the party. We keep yelling back Emphasizing . . . do NOT Let the Cops IN, otherwise they will shut the show down . . . Everyone obliges and creates a gauntlet of squeezed together people, All in All Everyone was just Another Brick in This Wall . . . The Police aint penetrating . . . and can only get from like from nose bleed back row 25 to Row 12. Still cannot see Tammy with wardobe Malfunctions LOL . . . So the Police are still trying to force there way to the front or STAND on Their TOES to get a Look See and we have a shouting match back n forth. "Hit the Bricks Coppers" Channeling James Cagney LOL "We need to see Whats going on up there" "Is everyone safe" . . . "Get Lost We go this Covered Officer" . . . all the while the Mike Hunt Band is nailing it. My Final Shout out was " Hey by time you get to the front the show will be over . . . Only two more songs and thats it" . . . The Police in New York City Give Up Retreat, Officer in Charge gives me a thumbs up and the show wrapped up. One for the books with Great NY Musicians, Great Music, Great Show and Not the HBO Family Friendly Corporate Foodie Crowd at the Hard Rock, that most was expecting.
