The Annual Hospital for Special Care Ivan Lendl Golf Classic, was recently held at the Wethersfield Country Club, and raised over $121,000 to support the hospital’s adaptive sports and therapeutic recreation programs for adults and children living with physical disabilities. Funds raised at the tournament support the Hospital for Special Care Ivan Lendl Adaptive Sports Camp, held each August on the grounds of St. Joseph’s College in West Hartford. The camp, now in its 21st year, attracts young athletes and coaches from throughout the United States. Proceeds also support Hospital for Special Care (HSC)’s year-round adaptive sports program, which includes basketball, swimming, tennis, skiing, soccer and track and field. Returning top corporate sponsors for 2011 were Downes Construction Company, Kaestle Boos Associates, The Tolland Fund and Webster Bank. The four sponsors have contributed more then $500,000 to the tournament over the last 16 years. World tennis legend Ivan Lendl, for whom the tournament is named, was once again Hospital for Special Care’s guest of honor. Bob Maxon of NBC Connecticut served as Master of Ceremonies.
