WalterR 10:47 pm, Saturday, September 29, 2012 -- When a dealership and its insurer stiff a charity golf tournament player Don DiMartino watched his ball sail high in the air, missing a couple of sand traps at the Mohegan Sun Country Club's Pautipaug Golf

WalterR 11:48 AM on February 12, 2013 Thats what happens when state regulators get involved, specifically Richard Blumenthal and Anthony Caporale state official who pushed persecuted FALSELY a 25 year business called hole-in-won.com who did 1000's of these events, OUT OF THE STATE, while they were making sure these NEVER Happened for 20 years. NOW these are happening at an alarming pace, charitys are paying more for fine print outta this state companies. They knew NOTHING about Golf. SEE https://www.hole-in-won.com/HIOrule-breakers.htm Hole-in-WON had 3 issues over 25 years like this but it was all due to the event directors errors. These 2 politicians were so INEPT and did not care about the facts, only their own butts in a public relations war Just another deplorable government reaction, a waste of our taxpayer dollars and a worse outcome for CT Residents and why we are now the worst credit rating state

JillS 2:08 PM on October 3, 2012 My husband and Don DiMartino were co-coaches for Little League way back when. Don is the nicest guy and deserves the award for his win. Bravo to you MariAn for helping this issue come to fruition and hopefully this Ford dealership will pay the price for their unfairness.

golfer1 9:35 PM on October 2, 2012 Great article MariAn and a great message to your readers to be careful and to always check the fine print. It's a shame that such a wonderful event had to be marred by this type of incident and those involved who didn't seem interested in a just and proper resolution should be ashamed. I'm glad you took the initiative and things worked out in the end. Keep up the great work. We need more journalists like you out there!

bybrown4u 3:39 PM on October 2, 2012 As a person in promotions, this kind of thing infuriates me. It's amazing that their legal team never mandated that this disclaimer be on all material. I'm glad to see that the guy

larryl 8:03 AM on October 2, 2012 Mistakes were definitely made in this tournament and the promotion of the hole in one as far as winning the car! There is a lesson to be learned for everyone that you have to do your homework. Fortunately your column has shown the injustice done to Mr. DiMartino and due to your work has gotten him what he deserved all along. It is nice to see that in the end the charity is doing the right thing by him. I am sure that your column will now make charities and other event planners make sure that they are more careful with prizes won and what it takes to win them. It also shows the little guy that you can triumph in getting what you deserve.

angeldaviana 10:46 PM on October 1, 2012 Don DiMartino is lucky to have you going to bat for him. Because of you, he will now have the car he honestly won. It is nice to know that the American Liver Foundation is doing the right thing and honoring their commitment. On the other hand Girard Ford and J. Ryder should be ashamed of themselves. It is a good reminder to all that they must read the fine print on everything.

Hilary25 7:53 PM on October 1, 2012 I hate to say it but it is the responsibility of the Liver Foundation and the car dealership. They most certainly should do right by this guy! I have run dozens of golf outings and have also participated in dozens as well. The car dealership and the non-profit need to step up and take responsibility. Otherwise, no one will want to play next year - charity or not!

jpsoreff 5:17 PM on October 1, 2012 Gotta love the American Liver Foundation for doing the right thing - but I would like to nominate both Girard Ford and their sneaky insurance provider J. Ryder Group for a pair of Flying Fickle Finger Of Fate Awards. I wonder how much more J. Ryder's premium would have been to cover that 157 yard shot. Maybe American Liver Foundation should just pay the difference and back-date the check.

P.PCTMOM2 6:29 PM on September 30, 2012 wow! A lesson learned that that the legal small print needs to be printed on EVERYTHING. I am sure the dealer never thought someone would actually make the whole in one to "win" this car they offered but now that someone did they need to honor what they offered. Bad publicity for Girard Ford & a bad attitude by the manager. Hopefully this news story made the New London area papers where their dealership is located.
